The DCyclist Goes on Tour

Through good fortune and timing, I will be going on tour……….with The Rolling Stones. Ok…..not really. While I will not have roadies (but damn it I need them) I will have friends and bikes. A few months ago, my friend Kevin, who blogs at Bicycle Bug’s Blog, put out a call for on Twitter for anyone interested in riding the Great Allegheny Passage Trail and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington, DC in May. Turns out that Kevin was finishing his Ph.D. and it was time to celebrate his achievement with a bike ride…..a long one.

As luck would have it, the timing was right for me to jump on board and do something I have wanted to do for the last 3 or 4 years. Not only that, John (a.k.a Rootchopper) from A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel also jumped at the chance to ride to come along. So there you have it…the three amigos…on bikes (We will fight about who gets to be Billy Crystal later).

Next week, we will depart for Pittsburgh for what I am sure will be a 335 mile epic journey filled with bikes, beers, coffee, friends and sore asses. Check back here over the next few weeks and months for a multi-part series of blog posts on the trip including a few product reviews on items I will be testing along the way.

I know a few members of #bikedc are planning to intercept us on our last day and escort us back into DC. Thanks for the support everyone!!!! Pittsburgh here we come!!!!

  1. Go figure. I’m driving to Cumberland, MD on June 1st and the bike shop there is going to shuttle my son and I to Pittsburgh for the ride back on the GAP.
I’m looking forward to your writing and will no doubt use it as a tour brochure.
